Thanks krauton, E worked for me, but I agree the adjectival form works better. It's a bit like 32d where the clue still makes sense if you use the relevant letter as either a "13" or a "25".

Ploughty wrote earlier, "One of the 7 really should have an X in it should the casualty of that X be put in the barred cell? Please."

I'm not sure why one of the seven should have an X in it (though I can see why he said that). More importantly, the reply from simplesimon was "no."

If the "casualty of that X is not put in the barred off cell" I cannot see how the answer to the question is spelled out.

Nearly full grid, but baffled by 31a with one cell left to fill. (As also uncertain about 32d)

Anagram of most of sleeve. Name of French (geographical) feature - the kind of thing that has two (things-one-letter-different to bands).

Lumen, there's a misprint in the third word of 31. The answer is a geographical feature (not in Chambers, it's a proper noun) and the wordplay is an anagram of a shortened word in the clue.

Murky. Re Ploughty’s comment earlier. I agree with you that one of the 7 does not need a X in it, as it is just the last in the sequence. I also can see why he / she said it. That was why I gave a response of “no”. Your final statement, however, is correct.

So 32d begins with an E?

Re the debate on whether the answer is spelt out and the barred off cell…

The ‘answer’ isn’t spelt out visibly in the grid (eg in a nice diagonal). Rather it is spelt in order by each move, in turn.

For the barred of cell, the title is pertinent (hence the title’s significance/relevance becomes clear).

I don’t think I’ve spotted Loge commenting on any of the threads this week. Loge… are you out there? Hope all is well?
