Apologies ..

9a - I think the answer is the "monarch, finally" not initially as I previously said.

Yeah I've just thought of another Queen to go in 5A, good clue in the end that. Shame it's not listed in Chambers online!

I'm going to have a nap and think about the other 2 I think, I'm too stuck on the only things I can see that fit, which don't look right at all. I'm sure I have all the crossers correct for 9A anyway.

25A if you've never heard of the word before I'm guessing I definitely haven't then! Pretty sure the answer I have is correct (I think it means disadvantage... as in if you have one of these it would be a disadvantage)

I really enjoyed this but finished with unparsed answers which you’ve all brilliantly explained in this thread already, thanks!

Various interruptions (e.g. going out to see a play) prevented completion in one go. But the fact that I actually finished without the blog must mean it's a little bit easier than the norm. I don't have any major parsing problems - even with 25 (def + omitted letters = wobbliness) and the first four letters of 26 are absolutely Tudor (to be "fair"). Thanks for all the fun feedback and to both Brendans for the compilation and the feedback. FOI 7d followed by 11a, LOI 19d (two possible answers but one parses better than the other.) COD - I'll go with 4d

A steady enjoyable solve today. FOI 1a with LOI 20d, the fact I finally got that one from an episode of Colombo rather than Shakespearean knowledge speaks volumes! Thanks to both Brendans

This was much more fun than I thought it was going to be. Standout clue for me was 9a (sorry, paradigmshifter!), though Monarch would be more correct.
25 the "wobbliness" is better known as the adjective, opposite (more or less) of "stable".

Hi Johnny,

I got it from Jack Nicholson in Scorsese's The Departed (where he drops the gun when talking to Leo) 😂

Thanks Alzy, thanks Richard, glad you both got it all sorted:-)

Hi Chris,

I knew 9a would be your favourite - a real scientists question😃

I enjoyed this though I agree that some of the wordplay was a little questionable (though I think this is more common on heavily themed puzzles). I liked that the theme was occasionally in the solution and not the clue. I was lucky with ‘wobbliness’ word as was in an example I used at work last week about patient consent - though it was used to mean ‘changeabilty’ there.

I'd never had got 9A, never heard of that before, I suppose I could have looked more at wikipedia. Was too blinded by the US State.

I'd eventually have got 20 I think, only from the last word though.

I can get a word meaning wobbliness from 25 if I add 3 letters to the beginning of 25 after removing the first letter of 25? But the clue seems to suggest only taking away is required?
