Thanks Norah.

Jazzgirl - also great to hear from you - long time since Times Jumbo Cryptic days when you defended me against the trolls -I've never forgotten that kindness.
I seem to remember that you also cracked my 'real' identity then through the jazz connection.
Glad you're still Crossing (...sorry if that sounds a bit ambiguous...)
xx

I have a full grid and the final word linking to the puzzle title. But the instructions from the ‘new’ letters has a penultimate three letter word that makes no sense?? Any hints?

Pattie, you might want to check your corrected letter in 8 down. There are two possibilities (in the same word) and the less convincing of these (to my mind) is the right one.

Thank you loge, I see it now. It had been driving me demented!

I have just finished, as I had been away over the weekend. I did exactly the same as pattie, and only realized that the letter had to be "t" after all the clues were solved.

piffleworthy

Re 19, I parsed it thus:

First word has misprint and is a four letter transitive verb (def 1 in Chambers), 'fed' by a word which can mean silence / nothing.

The whole is a French pp which one uses in response to an invitation which clashes with another previously accepted.

Piffleworthy, the first word does indeed have a misprint, therefore must be the definition. However it's good to know that you are familiar with the need to juggle multiple invitations. Next time you have a spare, I could do with a more exciting social life!

Greetings all
Finished with just one final look on the thread. This must be one of the easiest this year. However it is good to report a win (unlike my Welsh team)
