can you check the syntax of 9 please? "...produces decides decisive..." is weird

Sorry....there was an extra word in 9a. It should be
9a. Way reverse of fortune on board produces decisive situations
SHOWDOWNS

9. HOW (way) + DOWN (reverse of fortune) all contained in SS (on board)

Chrise...wrt 13a,...I don't understand why the clue says "3.15" (as though it were a time). If it helps, the answer to 3d was END OF AN ERA and 15a was LEARNER.
There is a note at the top of the page saying 'This puzzle was published on New Year's Eve 1999 (if that helps any).

11 The base of the fingernail is called the quick.
12 is your wording right? It looks odd.

Of course “nine ladies dancing” is from the Twelve Days of Christmas which is the intended reference I’m sure
