I obviously went to the wrong school, or just wasn’t naughty enough! ;-)

There was quite a lot of naughtines at mine (age 18 upwards ) (from all countries)

I am old enough to remember watching "Billy Bunter " from Greyfriars on the TV (black and white on a small screen) and "Cave ! " was used a lot. There are probably some clips on youtube, but I haven't looked

Unless I've not seen the reply, anyone worked this out yet?

27a. Taking care always to be in the right gear

One of the definitions of 'dressy' is 'indicating care in dressing', so it's maybe just one of those 'the whole clue defines it'? The'right gear' is meant to lead to us considering carss, driving. To me it's not a great clue!

Malone I also think it is an &Lit (gear in the sense of clothes)

Jazzgirl....what does &lit mean?. Seen you use it a couple of times now... First time I thought it was a typo.

&Lit is an abbreviated term used for a cryptic crossword clue which is "Literally so" i.e. the whole clue is the definition and is a fact
