Chambers has a few definitions for Utter. The most usual is 'to say', but there's also 'to try to pass off as genuine counterfeit money'. The clue's just a double definition one.

Cheers Malone...do you use chamber's online dictionary? If so, is it a free one or subscription?

Thanks , I should've got CAPITALIST.

Never heard of Tent wine.

The CHARLESTON one I've worked out (contraction of CHARLTON HESTON, who played Moses on film).

Thanks, Whetstone. Tent, wine, pops up occasionally. I don't think I'd ever have got the Charleston one - the film was out before I was even born! I think it's another of the very/too old clues.

A way to make the most of gold is to write LOG backwards.

Last letter of concert is T - phonetic alphabet gives TANGO

Paul REVERE with S

Thanks useby...that BACKLOG clue was pretty weak, if I understand you correctly,
i.e. Most of "GOLD" is "GOL", which is LOG backwards.
