Thanks Brendan! Raised C of E so your explanation helped! I usually give up on the crosswords with these kinds of special instructions, so it's satisfying to get it all done.

I've got19d as one of the specials, but don't understand the suggested parsing for its pair - "the" spanish isn't reversed in mine, so I've probably got the wrong one!

Unfortunately I knew both spellings for 28d, and the contentious letter isn't checked. Lucky that there isn't actually a prize...

Oh, and I haven't got the original for 23d either. Does it have the same number of letters?

i've got the correct pair for 19d now - it parses much better than my wrong one!

All finished but would appreciate some help on parsing 7d - only a couple of words fit so I think it's right...

BTW, I don't think the green tick means anything more than the crossword is all present - it doesn't mean 'and correct'. If you change a correct answer the green tick remains as long as every square has been filled.... If it indicated a correct grid, we wouldn't have to wait a week to get the solution...
