Many thanks to the hardy regulars who entered this week’s challenge. There were too many nice touches to mention them all and it wasn’t easy being the ‘inky smudge’.
I particularly liked Chris’s Bristol, Tyke’s indirect reference to ‘aris’ (which is in Chambers as a word in its own right I learnt), Paul’s lang/Lang and Bow Street, and Spike’s David Hockney.
Ginge’s subtractive deserves 2nd place, it was just a shame that ‘angry’ didn’t quite fit with the &lit intention.
However, I particularly liked Mattrom’s clue for the use of ’scold’ both as a synonym for ‘slang‘ and a rhyme for ‘Boris the Bold’. The reference to the David Hare poem was a nice extra touch and gave the clue extra depth. So that’s my winner.
In verse, scold Boris the bold? (7,5)
Concgratulations Mattrom, here is your prize which I came across unexpectedly while looking for War of the Roses clips… you’ll understand why if you stick with it to the end …
