If you clever lot have the puzzle there, please help me with 38a and 40d!
I have 44a so know where the linked letters should be, but both clues have stumped me and I just picked up the paper again…

I hope we're not heading for the same degree of scrutiny that Listener threads get, lumen.

jogamel - 'dry' is one of the two usual abbrevs, Biden denotes an Americanism and 'sandwiches' is the container.

38a is usual two-letter synonym for 'dry' enclosing one-letter abbreviation for 'are' plus four-letters for an annoying, tedious person.Answer is US version of word.

40d is 6 letters, 5 letter word for 'raises' as in 'brings up' around b.

...for 40 it's 'b' in a synonym for 'erects'.
