For 7D, a wikipedia search should help. Online Chambers was no help for me for that one.

I got the anagram for 7D but looking up one of the words in the clue was no help online in Chambers anyway, but wikipedia search was spot on. I drink beer mainly ;)

Anag. in 7 was straightforward, but I was unfamiliar with the usage of "appellation". Non-drinker for many years, never drank wine.

It's usually paired with "controlee"

Hi Chris

I had completely the wrong answer for 7d; now I have the right one (so I have poured myself glass of wine) but my answer for 14ac is wrong! I'm very well read, but clearly not as well as I thought.

I can't see anything in front of my face that fits B?E?E?S, which is what I now have for 22ac.

I can't see how to get costermonger into 19d, but perhaps it is a word not in my Chambers!

I can see the spy in 29 ac but not see the anagram. It would help if I could find the first letter from 19d.

I had a break to get the washing in, so maybe it will all fall into place.

22A has 2 incorrect crossers there.

The spy in 29A and the MI6 person in 19A (which presumably you need if you don't know first letter of 19D) are mainly in admin roles, but connected with the same secret agent.

roof, your third and fourth crossers for 22a are wrong.
Perhaps your 16d is off, hint Robert né Zimmerman from Minnesota. :-)
23d contains the other crosser, solution is an obscure thematic.

Hi Roof,

29a - The anagram is every letter apart from the single letter "spy" (from James Bond?)

22a - Well, what can I say 😂

19d - Single letter "last of tinned" in what "Astaire and Rogers" were.
(I read an article where Ginger Rogers was talking about all the plaudits and praise Fred Astaire got and she said that she did everything he did but "backwards and in heels"!!)

I kept trying to parse 29A with a 2 letter abbreviation for doctor until I realised it was an anagrind. It didn't make sense before that.
