Yes, one refers to the initials C. S., and the other to the last pen-name Carroll.

Thanks to Brendan (setter) for an excellent puzzle, 11a-like in its interwoven themes. I haven't quite completed - any hints for 20-a and 22a please? - and a couple needed guess-and-Wikipedia although the high quality wordplay made guessing easy.
I feel we've had a run of good quality puzzles lately but then I'm fond of a theme, I know they aren't to everyone's taste.

20a: remove letters menup from 15d.
22a: definition is I.

Many thanks Mathi. That was my first answer for 20a but I didn't see why, and removed it to put the wrong answer in 16d (another pair of poets)
Best wishes to all, have a good day, keep safe

Thanks, geeker.
It just struck me that Brendan missed a trick on the crosser to the “two dons” clue - its solution is only one letter out from the real surname of one of them.

Can anyone tell me with no spoilers if 4d and 14a are well known? So far there have been a few I haven't known. Been staring blankly at these since about 8am.
