I agree WilliamS, nice to see perseverance pay off for so many here. I can’t comment on the football, but at least we have something to celebrate in cricket. Hope your fishing is going well!

Prospero, you are a star.
So annoying when the answer is staring you in the face. And me a Genesis fan! ( My excuse is that Hackett) had left.
I will feel smug about completing for a while and then attempt to fit answers to the grid.

Hi Jono

Can you send me a link to the right wiki page as I haven't been able to find it. (I've looked through so many different pages.) Otherwise, I may have to go next door and ask my neighbour who is a keen Wagner fan.

Hi Jono

I've managed to come up with something from the wordplay that fits the letters, so I think that's it. Many thanks for your help.

Eventually finished it. But as others have noted, the preamble could and should have said that the 4 parts of the theme start from the TOP right square. It was irritating to pencil in the beginning of the sequence from the bottom right, only to find that the solutions would not fit. One or two clues I've still not worked out cryptic components, though I'm sure of the answers (Milton's brother with name...? short river (got that bit) that's deserted (d??)

the D does apparently stand for deserted ... it's a period spelling of friar

I have now got 95% of the answers but have gone wrong somewhere when entering in the grid. Before I start again can someone please confirm the order of the perimeter theme words?
Starting from the bottom right I have DW, S, G and finally DR. Is that correct?
