Just been doing my homework. Seems Mr. Boycott had some harsh criticism for the English team.

I'm struggling! 26 FOI in fact, though what overseas solvers will make of it I don't know. Cook would have been fairer than Boycott.

ChrisE if it helps at all, I don’t think there’s a single anagram today, or any “hiddens”. I think that made it seem particularly difficult but also really rewarding.

As has already been mentioned here, 11ac and 24ac involve that brilliant device of the answer being an instruction which would make a word in the clue (if that makes sense).

Overall, tough but enjoyable.

The appearance of Picaroon’s name caused me to shudder, remembering past challenges, and a first run-through yielded very little; but my late-night tired brain was oddly on his wavelength and I was dime and dusted in half an hour.
FOI was the brilliant 2dn, but not without doubts and apprehensions because of what it did to 9,25.

Delightful crossword . stared at it for ages not picking up on anything. That served to massivly increase the satisfaction of finishing it .

I've had a spurt after getting 1d (my French and Google translate had different words for "that"), but I've ground to a halt again in the NE. Could I have a hint for 4a please.

I've a solution that fits 8d, but can't parse it. Would Barts be an example?

4a is a homophone of a biblical reference
8d is a play on ‘career’
