What you say about fungi, chrise, is interesting. Collins and Chambers say a fugus is a plant but the OED simply says it is a growth. I've just asked a biology graduate (I didn't even take biology O-level) and he says it's not. Does it depend on what is meant by plant?

Hi orson
Living things are often divided into Kingdoms. There is some difference of opinion over how many are needed, but animals, plants, and fungi are consistently three of them.

Thanks. I have heard it pronounced Moll-ee-er-ee (not Radio 3).

Thanks for the omega-3 info.

Does the three indicate whether the double bond is between the third last and second last carbon atom of the chain or between the third and fourth last?

Between 3 and 4.
Another consequence of the misunderstanding is that some people think that omega-6 is twice as good!

Our local drama group recently put on a Christmas show for children. The Prime Minister's apology reminded me of the Wicked Witch, after having been foiled in her evil schemes, promising (through gritted teeth) to be good in future.

I've just seen an advert for TalkTalk broadband. It gave the speed in megabits/second. That's verging on unethical, as speeds are usually given in megabytes/second. The megabits version would be 8 times slower than implied!

Another advert - I can't remember if I've mentioned this one before. A decongestant called "Sterimar" that's made from 100% pure natural sea water. So it's....sea water?

ChrisE

Did you see this clue in the TImes last week?

Do reasonably well trained Omega-1 staff do ok? (4,1,4,4,2)

From what you say, I think Omega-1 does exist.

I suppose if the double bond was between the last 2 carbon atoms it might be an omega-1?
