Apparently that was the only proper anagram (e.g. Farty Owls isn't, no E)

Not surprisingly for such a cult show, the details of the signs have been posted on the Interwebs:

I used to live near the actual building that was Farty Towels. Not in Torquay in fact but Bourne End in Buckinghamshire. Sadly burned down in the 90s. The sign also sadly was never there - anagram or otherwise.

Thanks Philistine, a lovely puzzle. Completed this morning (UK) without help from here for once, but with a few guesses that I couldn't parse until I read this, many thanks to all contributors.

Like others, I had to search for a recipe to get all the ingredients - I then spent too long trying to fit 'chicken' in somewhere! Many COD contenders: politically 5d was good, loved the double reference in 14a and the use of 25a in 4d, but I think 17a wins it for the oblique allusion to Fawlty Towers

Best wishes to all and sympathy to all back sufferers. I've met those chairs in ee, I usually wait standing up because they are so awful (and I think it keeps the staff more aware of you waiting)
