I should think you’ve all moved on by now! thanks to the hints I finally got 4, 15 and 6 … but still no idea for 12 ac, which hasn’t troubled anyone else. Anyone out there?

Just you and I around it seems! 12 parses as an alternative word for pot (3), with “starter of ratatouille” embedded (1), followed by another word for call (4) - think old style telephones. The solution features in the expression “fancy a pre-xxxxxxxx aperitif?”

Yes I also enjoyed and completed this but having done that decided to tackle the guardian for a few days as well as the I. Downloaded today’s guardian to see it was wet by Brendan - can’t be a coincidence ?! If that’s ‘our’ Brendan then how to parse 10) animal succeeded ? Exactly (5) I’ve guessed Stoat ..

It’s a bit cheeky, meat and two veg is colloquial and fish is a collective noun

A collective name for fish (6) inside another euphemism for the euphemism "meat and two veg".

Thanks for the link to 15 squared that gave the parsing ! But of a stretch .. the to a t but nice. Meat and 2 veg .. is very colloquial and would give less chance to maybe more international solvers?
