Sunray, wordplay for 11 is three initial letters in abbreviation for Australia

18 pits is def, commonly associated with lungs

34 wordplay is A + reversal of 3-letter word for fool (usually a mild term of abuse) + two-letter cry of triumph (Greek)

Thanks Sunray. I was close… but scuppered by my lack of Latin education (again!). Loge’s post should point you in the right direction for 11, 18 and 34. 34 was one of my last solves… the fancy chambers search came up trumps for me with that one.

This was good fun, thank you Ace! Apropos writing the relevant word in the centre, wouldn’t that be otiose given the nature of the grid?

Merenz, I agree with your post about searches. All’s fair in love, war and barred thematics 😉

Thanks loge.
All the clues are fair once you know what to do.
Was not aware of the 3 letter word for fool.

Only 2 remain. 4 and 24.
Will plow on.

Many thanks, krauton. I'm watching an online livestream at the moment but I'll try it later on the one clue I haven't yet solved.

Hi dsc,

Loge has explained the entry for 2 in reply number 19 on this thread. The wordplay gives the “a” surrounded by the reverse of a word for a type of car (commonly used in the USA where in the UK we would probably say “saloon car”).

In 26, the full answer ( definition is “civet-like creature”) was most obscure. The wordplay is something meaning “musicians” with the vowels taken out. For example, if the musicians were cellists, the entry would be “cllsts”.

I hope this helps.
