ukridge, this may not be helpful, but............I had the answer to perimeter 37, and I also had some of the letters in the jumble - that led to some of the letters in the thematic word - of which there are not many. Look at the other perimeters in the same way and a consistent theme emerges.

Loge, without trying to be awkward, what are you trying to solve?

Not awkward at all! What I don’t get is the link between the dedicatee of the puzzle and the items which have to be added to the perimeter answers. He was a classicist so would have been familiar with a certain Greek play whose title describes the thematic items, but there must be more to it than that?

Thanks Gitto, but I don't think I've filled the grid enough yet for that - and I have no idea where 37 is coming from, though I have other perimeters. Perhaps a small hint?

I agree Loge, but the final word of the hint seem to confirm it to me.

Indeed, Gitto, but I still can’t explain what it has to do with the writer. Never mind!

Incredibly tough puzzle but ultimately everything became clear, as did the reason none of my Google searches worked! I really should have remembered the name. Still not sure exactly how the thematic items fit in but doubtless I'll have a 'doh!' moment sooner or later.

Hardest part now will be double-checking that all the letter additions are correct for the perimeter.

Thanks Gorrag.
