It sure is, Unclued. I have found (after a LONG search) the writer's full name, which sets my mind at rest over the meaning of all the moved letters. I can still find nothing that links him to the theme words. Going by the title, I wonder if he translated a work by a certain Greek playwright, or perhaps championed a certain work by a British composer? Or perhaps he was an expert of the theme? Does anyone know this?

Loge - I think he studied Classics

CD, I'm sure you're right - though I think he must have had a particular speciality in that area to occasion the theme words. It may be I've missed an obituary somewhere, though I've looked extensively and have only found one brief reference to him, which doesn't contain the necessary information. Which means you'd have to have known him personally to be sure of all the elements here. It's not good form to diss a tribute puzzle but unless I have missed some information available to the public, several solvers will be denied the satisfaction of understanding what's going on even when they complete the grid.

I found a simple obituary by typing his name followed by obituary into Google which referenced him studying Classics at Oxford and enjoying classical music.

However, I couldn’t find a particular link to the thematic items other than via the quote from the extra letters

Yes, I found that since I posted, but it still doesn't explain the thematic items, as you say. The quote must be linked to him too, but again the connection is hard (impossible?) to find.

With the help of. OCA - and I haven’t completed that answer - I’ve finished the SW corner. This doesn’t give much help for other regions!
I have 9ac, so a hint for another answer in the NE corner would be appreciated.
Thanks

6 down doesn't have an added letter in the entry. The missing letter is in the fifth word and the clue is a (sort of?) Spoonerism.

What is OCA?

Ignore my question, I've realised what you mean.

Finally limped over the line with this one. However there are a few odds and ends that I need to sort out. I haven't a scooby-doo as to how 32a parses, nor as to what the seven titles are and neither the author (although I have his? name). There are many fiendishly difficult clues in this crossword which are not made any easier by some extremely elusive omissions within them. The final highlighting in the grid is a nice touch. It is also incredible that this crossword also defeats google (so far), which takes some doing.

Gitto - good effort completing without any assistance from the theme!

If you put the name across and name down in Google, you should be able to find a link to the theme
