Just a note to say that the online version (not the app) has now been corrected in line with the pdf.

I thought it was really tough actually although again the missing words were a problem until I read Geekers note. Well done if you got those without the pdf favourite 1d

Mooring all.
The omissions made this a more challenging excursion - nothing on my Guardian iPad app to indicate anything amiss, except that I couldn't begin to parse my guesses. I hadn't thought of checking the web site since I know the Guardian doesn't make mistakes! Thanks to Geeker for the alert.
The corrected 11a gives a fourth alliterative pair so well done Everyman, thanks for a nice puzzle.
Some good Clues, cod 13d FOI 1a so I thought it might be a stroll but I was soon corrected.
Have a good week all

So lucky to have tackled this after corrections had been made and very unusually it was all solved before 10.00! Thank you, that was nice!

Morning All
Given the main topic of this week's forum, I started hoping that 23A was one of the partial clues, but no such luck, having checked the pdf. So can anyone help with the parsing? I've got two letters in the solution (Lady/Princess) that don't seem to be indicated anywhere in the clue.

Hi Phil,
23a two letters for one in France at the beginning (for starters), then a three letter word for grub as a verb, then a 5 letter anagram

Thanks, Jono. I'd taken 'for starters' to mean the G of grub. Can't say I've ever come across that synonym, although it is the primary definition in the OED (with what I've always believed to be the main one at number 2). Really must get round to reading the dictionary from start to finish one day.

Phil,
There’s a very entertaining book called Satisdiction by Ammon Shea which are his musings on reading the entire OED from beginning to end. Not sure if it’s still in print, but an easier read than the OED itself!

Thanks for the recommendation, Jono! This crazy idea has been on my mind recently because I found myself delving into Fowler's Modern English Usage the other day, during one of the duller Euros matches (England were probably involved). Ended up spending the whole game flitting from one entry to another. In my defence, it is probably more entertaining than the dictionary.
