No discussion for now, but I noticed some typographical errors on the Guardian page (I don't have a smartphone or use the app).
Clues 11, 12 and 17 are incomplete on the main (fill-in solver) screen and the "Print" page. The .pdf page has the full clues.
I was able to guess the solutions, but was rather confused. Suspected Grauniad errors, so looked up the .pdf and everything cleared up.

Correction: my initial solution to 11, based on the incorrect clue, went astray with the second word.
Before seeing the .pdf, I managed to persuade myself that the truncated 17 clue actually made sense!

Hi Geeker,

Thanks for the explanation regarding the missing clues and where to find the completed versions:-)

Not too difficult this week with lots of good clues like 24a and 5d but for my COD I've gone with 13d which is just excellent.

I didn’t think of looking at the PDF!
But I did complete it and agree with your idea for 17d - it almost makes sense in the truncated version.
No rhymes this week but “CC” features in the long clues. The initial clue is there too. Two of them are anagrams and the third almost one.
The rest? Not a lot of joy but I haven’t looked at the PDF yet.

I've just completed it on my Guardian phone app and the same clues are affected there too!

Brendan, I agree with you on the difficulty level, although working from 3 truncated clues definitely extended solving time!
Also agree on 13 as COD, also liked 5, 10, 1a and 1d. My FOI was 4 and LOI (working from truncated clue) 17.
I found it a fun puzzle, albeit with no real distinguishing features. Thanks to Everyman, but a brickbat for the editors!

Morning all. Fortunately I read the 225 blog on last week’s Everyman before doing this one and someone there mentioned the incorrect clues so I didn’t have to suffer figuring that out. Looks like it’s something to do with the words in italics.

This is the grid Everyman uses for a trio of alliterative pairs. He/she’s used it twice before to this effect. It’s rather clever to get phrases to fit this pattern as 1a has to be (6,7) for it to work with 4d.

Agree with earlier comments on difficulty. Thanks Everyman!

It was very annoying, since I didn’t check the pdf file. Only after seeing the comments here and the correct pdf version, I could complete my LOI 17d.

Is 12a the well known Latin expression? I just can’t see the parsing.

Hi Cymru,
Yes, the parsing breaks down as 6 1 2 (the 2 is a reversal)
