27, My suggestion is,
To transport something can be to bear it.
Free the lead letter in bear and you have ear.
Ear gets attention.

27...looks good thanks....I was barking up the wrong tree completely....I thought it was to do with removing Pb (lead chemical symbol) from a longer word to get the answer.
Don't like the clue, if I'm honest.
