I have a full grid, the thematic location and the remainder of the thematic quote in the bottom row. However I am lost as to how to identify the protagonist and also to which cells must be highlighted. A nudge in the right direction would be appreciated.

Think numbers, not names, Gitto. If you have the theme one number in the top row should have particular significance.

Finished, but went quite a long way round the grid to get the required quote - without the guardians seeming to play any part in affecting the route.
Are they meant to just be blocking the route, or something more?

You guys are way ahead of me. After an hour or so I've still only solved about a dozen clues!

There lies the problem Loge, 'cos I haven't got a number in the top row nor do I have an 'X' anywhere in the grid.

Like a nudge with any Brendan?

My answer is a shrub and has two O's - Is one of these extra?
