D is correct letter, to form crowd (as in number of soccer match attendees).

I have failed to get going on this one. Have about six of the eights cold solved, and still have four of the numbered clues to crack so would appreciate tips on those. They are 4, 6, 7a and 17. I have the correction letters so can guess the definitions I think. Thanks!

4a - 4 letter ,"fishing line" (or what is kept on) around single letter "bass" - definition is first word after misprint correction.

6a - Hidden in clue

17a - Single letter "source of torpor" + 3 letters from "in the past" reversed/"on reflection" - definition is first 3 words after a correction to the first word.

7a - Is the usual single letter "university" inside 4 letter priest minus it's first letter. - Definition is "fit" (fever) as cited in the Bible

Sorry Lumen, i didn't mean to muddy the waters in 7a - the definition is "hot sensation in Biblical studies.

To be fair, definition 1 of reel is a spool/drum/bobbin etc - but definition 2 is a length of material so wound.

17 - first letter changes; answer is worn with sandals.
