PDM gave me 11ac followed by 3d, though I'm not sure what it means. Eight left. I'll see how many I get while room 301 is on, Hints for 10ac and 8d would help with the north east corner. Similary hints for 17d 25ac for south west.

I have 19ac ?S?O????
8d P???G????
17d B?L?E??
and 25ac A?????T?

I'll be back

Hi Roof,

17d - Your letters are correct. - 4 letters for "stakes" (as in 'gambling') around/"fencing" 3 letters for "badly" - definition is "puts up" as in 'provides accommodation for'.

8d - Your letters are correct. 7 letters for a "2 D shape" + 2 letters for "I'm not sure" - definition is "group of plants.

25a - Is the anagram in the acrosses I referred to in my original post.

There isn't a 19a and I can't see an answer that has S as its second letter - what clue did you mean?

Roof.
I also found this hard today and relied on a lot of help, especially with the parsing.
BTW It's Griselinia!

Apologies Roof,

10a has the ?S?O???? letter pattern you referred to.

Many thanks Brendan

I think I didn't get 8d because I wanted the answer to be potagerie and I'm not particularly fond of the plants that are the answer. It's taken me ages to see the hidden parsing for 17d. I knew what the stakes were.

I now just have one left 18ac for which I have ?I?I?G ?O?M. But having just written it out horizantally I think I've got it - definition mess. So obvious when you get them.

I don't think I've got the right answer for 26ac, but I may not be up on "coups".

Thank you to Rossim for agreeing that this was a tough one. It helps to know I wasn't alone in struggling.

Am I the only one who does the crossword on the paper? Since we take the Guardian, I might as well use it.

I'm signing off now as I've some chores to finish before I can go to bed.

Thanks for all the help.

I also do it in the paper, and usually Saturday afternoon/evening, so don't get much chance to contribute as most seem to have finished and moved on by then.

You arent sure about 26a? I wasn't surprised at the other contributor, but ... et tu?

Thank you to everyone for the hints, Iā€™ve just finished after starting yesterday. I found this extremely difficult but have learnt a lot of new words ....ā€scatterā€ being one. Funnily enough I found the SE corner easier and got 26a early on....which led to the answer for 22d. Didnā€™t really like some answers / parsing....13d and 17d a bit naughty but best clue for me was 5d. Happy Sunday everyone, Tony :-)

Nice one Tony.

I really regret saying it was straightforward now but .........in my defence, I did say "relatively" šŸ˜‰
