Somewhat relieved to read the above posts about the misprints in 24 and 29 dn., as I was going to ask about these. I'd mistakenly found an extra copy of the corrected last misprint from 24: the definition still (more or less) makes sense with this letter substituted. I wasn't familiar with the real corrected word!

Grid complete, then, at last - it took me a long time to get into gear with this one! Can anyone supply a parse for 36 ac., please? I established the answer from the definition but can't see the wordplay beyond "North America".

Agreed on 5 dn., jogamel - 17 ac. is another strange letter combination that I haven't seen before!

Just about done - 3rd week in a row.. apart from 3. Have the theme words etc. Enjoyed the pdm when I spotted 6D ans the rest clicked into place. Allowed for guessing the 9 letter word too.

1D jinn turned up being ready for Asian country (5)

Hi aslac. 22 and 33 were both new words to me. I got 33 first, which helped a lot with 22d. (I don’t have 1d or 1a yet!)
33, annual return is simply AR. Then I handle backwards, think ‘I carry’. Obscure fish pest.
Once you have the crossing letter you should see 22 ends with three letter synonym for ‘situation’, think geographically.

Just finished this and checked in to see if anybody else was baffled by the eighth misprint. Merenz was in my boat - very cleverly disguised misprint!!

Glad it wasn’t just me kenhiggs! I don’t suppose we needed to resolve the issue since it didn’t prevent completion. But it’s frustrating if you haven’t quite got everything nailed. My thanks as ever to all of the wonderful contributors on this forum, who help me sleep better at night :D

Which clue does the third letter of the nine come from, the Y? It doesn’t really matter but I’m a tidy person and can’t see it. I confess to having messed up the 24/29 thing, also irrelevant but annoyingly clever of Phi!
