I cannot see how 1d is parsed. The definition gives it away but "shade" ?? Any pointers please.

I enjoyed this, thanks Everyman. Just the right degree of difficulty for me. FOI 5a, LOI 19d, COD 27a.

Late to the party this week but enjoyed it nonetheless. Favourite was 8d where all the parts matched up nicely to produce a lovely surface.

Thanks to Everyman.

Splendid all round - nice variety of types of clue, good range of level of difficulty as mentioned by a few folks already, and plenty of satisfying answers.

I like the rhyming pair too - homely.
Also like the answer to 17d just a lovely weird thing, and 16d particularly because of the great anagram from a single word.
Thanks for the parsing info for 8d which I had not got.

I am not convinced that the definition for 11a is totally accurate but I can forgive the setter that within such a fine crossword.

I took 11a as referring to the music genre - see this example:

Started this at lunchtime today and hope my boss isn't calling me. Found it hard to start with 2 or 3 really confusing me. Great help from the forum. Last frustration was the poet who I had as c instead of s in the middle. COD was 14AC as it took me ages to work out the anagram and finally worked it out. 7D was a cracking clue too. One of my favourite Everymans.
