i'm a bit confused by 1a. where's the weakness?

Yes nice one today 1a my favourite loi 24a can see tax in middle but cannot parse the rest ...actually I have it now another well worded clue thanks to Everyman and the faithful and welcome to newcomers.

Must be easier this week as finished unaided by mid morning. FOI 1d which helped solve NW corner. COD for me was the rhyming pair which took me back to the 1950s.

Agree with all that today's Everyman was a gem! Some easy ones to get started, but enough difficult ones to be challenging. Lots of clever clues, so can't single out one for COD, but favourites were 11 and 27 across and 8 down.
