A really enjoyable solve, and not too difficult compared with the last couple of weeks' puzzles. Matters were helped by the fact that I solved most of the SE corner first, giving me the 43 ac. and checking letters of the 47.

The 'journey' was much trickier to spot in the completed grid than the 'destination'. I struggled for a while to get the 'journey' to extend as far as the reason for its change of destination, before realising that a shorter 'journey' through the grid was needed.

Yes, lovely puzzle. But for a while i was looking for a train departing at 3.10. It was the 43 that led me in that direction.

Grid all solved but ... oh dear! Are the clashing letters forming anagrams of the starting point and the destination?

There are two cells which require a sequence of letters rather than just one. In each case the ac/dn entries clash. The clashing letters in each cell, when concatenated, spell out the start point and possible destination.

So that's a yes, pentlandsound? Two anagrams, one in each cell. I've gazed at the letters, but meaning has yet to strike.

No anagram required, cockie. For each cell, just join the two strings of letters together to make the location. In each case the letters from the 'down' entry precede those from the 'across' entry. You should end up with two nine-letter place names.

The answer itself is 8 letters long, the definition is Wafflers. There's a common four-letter word for wheedle, steal + then the usual European and America (European IN America).

It's really a French word, jogamel - starts with 4-letter slang term meaning to cadge or wheedle, followed by abbrev of European in abbrev of America. 9 letters in all. Def is 1st word of clue.

Sorry, Jogamel, much of that was wrong! The answer is 9 letters, the wheedle bit is still 4, the European and America bit works... it was a bit tangled for me!
