Thanks to both Brendans and to everybody else. I enjoyed this one but I always like a theme. Feel an unjustified sense of achievement that I only took minimal help from the forum this week. I had hoped to help Brendan (forum) understand 10a but I see that the explanation came eventually. Cod probably 24a, very neat

First time on forum, have done crossword and worked out most but just checking that 2d is what I think it is ?I?E and another word for someone's assistant

2d is a piece of equipment rather than a person. Have a look at the NATO alphabet.
