I have been up since 6am volunteering at a vaccination centre, so my brain might not be working properly. But I can't see either a clue or an answer that relates to June.

Got there in the end - 8a and 1d eluded me for ages. Never heard of 8a though I'd worked out which month by then and one look solved it. 1d was my very dim moment and no excuse at all for not seeing sooner. COD might have to be 10a for me and maybe 15a because it's such a good word.

Hi Lucy,

I knew you'd like 10a - Shakespeare and David Essex, what a combination 😉

Hi Brendan et al

I'm surprised to find this xword described as difficult as I filled in so many answers off the top, but then I came to a grinding halt.

I don't know the 17th Century scientist. I haven't got 1d or 8ac or 6ac. I've gone for the pub in 7d. the SE corner is quite empty. I'd like to get 24ac and 24d and 18d. Is 6D an anagram?

Please may I have hint for 1d I only have ???I?A?? and I have three months not accounted for.

Hi Roof,

6d - No, it's not an anagram. 4 letters for a an old Chinese "dynasty" + 2 letters for "one's" all inside a 4 letter word for "offspring" and the whole thing is reversed/"being raised" - definition is "names" as in 'appoints'

1d - Is a double definition. The first is a problem many elderly people get with their eyes/"cloudiness that affects visibility" and is also a (water)"fall" - Your I is wrong.

24a - 3 letters for "spring" + (autum)N - defition is "stretch"

24d - first 4 letters of a month which also means "Irish clan"

Thanks Brendan

I'd got 6d, but hadn't been able to parse it. I now have 1d with the i gone from 10ac, which I think I now have. I've also got 8ac, a word I've never heard of, at least not spelt the way I spell it. 24ac is aso OK, but not 24d. I didn't know there were any Irish clans.

I've still got to get16d, 18d and 24d and I've not fitted in April anywhere; perhaps it goes in 24d? I've an answer for 22ac, but I can't parse it.

Must finish before 9.00pm to watch Spiral
