Thanks to Hedge-Sparrow - that was brilliant and it was great to read up on the around the measuring of the "level crossing" - very funny:-)

25d - trying to parse this is slowly driving me insane😜 I see the definition of "sustained notes" and the 4 letter "melody" 'soaring', but how do the other 2 letters equal "a young child"?

Hi Mattrom,

I can see that it can be a "player chosen" in a children's game (assuming I reverse it) but that's not really the same thing - is it? or, if I don't it's the chemical symbol for Titanium?

Brendan, my app has
"The neuter of he or she and him or her1applied to a thing without life, a lower animal, a young child, rarely (except as an antecedent or in contempt) to a man or woman"
I doubt it would be used often these days, though.

Oh wow! How did I miss that??? πŸ˜• I swear Mattrom, I thought I'd read that page a thousand times but you're right - that is exactly what it says.

PS. In my defence I have been on very strong painkillers for a couple of days......

Really Bren? and they make you blind do they! 😜

I'm surprised how much having the app on my PC has speeded up my solving times. Well worth the investment!

malone ... or anyone

Further to your earlier hint, is " hero of book" a particular one, or generic. I have *oo**

Hi Grunger,

It's generic and can apply to "book, film, or any character on the side of justice and fair play" (in a Western they would invariably wear a white hat).

Loved this puzzle so thanks HS. Am I right in thinking that our ears should be entered with an epsilon?
