Ahh yes, thank you! I should have got that. My brain is broken from this homeschooling lark. The 5 letter coffee is my standard order.

Thanks Brendan, all done! And of course it's obvious now i've got it..... And Chris, as an ex-pat Aussie I claim 29a for my compatriots! It was my favourite too but I gave up coffee decades ago so a fond memory now.

Very fine crossword indeed . Am I alone in being reminded of the late great Auracuria in the style and creativity of it .

All done except 26a and 27d

Amazing how different we all are - 26a was my first one in! It's precisely defined, and the "squash" bit is a verb.
27d is a familiar crossword bird - it's a "sounds like".

26a definition swollen stem eg potato
27d homophone of another word for tail giving a bird's name.

I found this most enjoyable with such an unusual theme.
The parsing of one or two took me a little while having seen the definition.
29a was clever with two types of coffee but my COD must be the 7/23 pairing which gave me my biggest PDM.

Finally got there with much help from everyone here.
It was quite a slog for me, but there's a good feeling now it's done.
