That did pass my mind. But I discarded it as a very tenuous clue!

I'm enjoying this but getting stuck to finish in the SE corner. Any help with 22a appreciated - if I get that I think I'll sort 22d and 16d and be done! Assuming I haven't give off-piste elsewhere...

22a is 3 bits in order, the "man" being an odd way of giving 3 letters
22d is obscure, though - I needed online help.

I really enjoyed this, Paul is one of my favourite setters as like with this one I find them a good level of difficulty - solvable but not all done before 9am! I got 24d, 25d and 18d first which led me to solve 28a and figure out what was going on with twice capital thing.

Favourite clue was 9a for the misdirection from the first word. Also made me smile once I had it as my father-in-law who has a penchant for using obscure words in place of common one refers to their daily exercise as this (the clue rather than the solution)

Could someone give me a hint for the passing of 29a. I miss coffee shops. :-(

22a - 3 letters for "get" + single letter for "hot" + 3 letters for "man" - definition is a "capital".

29a - single letter for "strong" + a 5 letter type of coffee around 3 letters of a 4 letter word/"briefly" meaning "stir cream" - definition is "creation of barista" (although I'd never heard of it it is in Chambers)

Surprised you haven't heard of it, brendan. It's my favourite barista creation! It's what I always order in Costa...

It was first made in New Zealand, I think - at least, that's where I first had it, many years ago.
