Ha - no complaints here, (yet), it’s a fun challenge so far, although I’m wondering whether I’ll have to work out how a music box works!

I made almost zero progress for 90 minutes at least. Discarded letters, an uncertain method of entry, unclued entries and some horribly tough clues for the ring entries means almost zero feedback from the grid. I’m nowhere near finished but dinner called and the rest can wait till tomorrow.

I have got the tune, and that helps with the unclueds, but I share CD’s concern about the music box. Especially as there appear to be five potential notes...

Tough, but finally completed the grid with a couple of parsing queries. Enjoyable though.

I’ll leave the endgame until tomorrow as think the wording “play a version” of the tune is in there for a reason as there seems to be a few different ones, not that I would know where to put the “pegs” anyway.

Will have to read up on music boxes tomorrow!

Took another look before bed and now have a completed grid and, I think, the pegs to make the variation on the tune.What I have is plausible enough but I'm damned if I recognise it! If it's a pop song I probably won't know it, so I hope there's something clever going on here.
