I bought Chambers Dictionary (Ultimate Edition 2015) in Oct 2020. It`s installed on my pc - it cost £19.58 from Microsoft store, I paid by Paypal via my Microsoft account.

I agree the Chambers Dictionary and Thesaurus phone apps are better value and lovely to use - I just feel more comfortable using my pc with a proper keyboard which can accommodate my one-finger typing!

That's very interesting, tyke51 - looking at the MS store there also appears to be a WordWeb standalone version of Chambers 13th ed for Windows available at £12.49, although as far as I can see it isn't listed on WordWeb's own site. A free trial seems to be an option.

Hi Spoffy

I`ve only installed Chambers on my main pc - but I think I can install it on `up to` 10 devices, using the same MS account. I`ve probably paid over the odds - but don`t really mind as I find it convenient to use.

No, I'm sure you haven't paid over the odds - I assumed from what you said that you'd bought the Paragon product that includes the Chambers Thesaurus and a bunch of other stuff.

I was just surprised to see that Chambers on its own (no WordWeb, no Thesaurus, just the BRB) was available relatively cheaply from WordWeb software, as I had been under the impression that for Windows they only supplied it as an add-on to WordWeb Pro - with bells, whistles and matching price tag. I may have to get a copy to see what it's like!

Just to clarify ... I only got the Chambers Dictionary from MS - it`s the 2015 Ultimate Edition. I think that`s all they do for your pc.

I`ve since bought both the Chambers Dictionary and Thesaurus as separate apps for my phone.

Thanks to Jono, Tyke and Spoffy for the collective input. I've just purchased Chambers 13th. from the MS store, for 22.45 AUD. I'll probably get to try it out on this week's Listener.

Well done Mattrom! I had to pay vat on the £19.58 when I checked so it ended up about £23!

I`ve just installed it on another pc as well so it`s not too bad an investment!

A much better investment than my original purchase of Chambers on CD-ROM - when I replaced my PC a few years later and wanted to reinstall the application I found the CD easily enough but realised that I'd thrown away the box...together with the activation code. Result: £17.43 poorer, no wiser.

Hi Brendan, I don't have the phone app. From what you've mentioned in the past, I think the phone app has more functions.
This one shows the word definitions, anagrams and words containing the word. So far I'm pleased with it.
