Quite neat. Good theme, some subtle cluing.

This one grew on me, some tricky wordplay.

Some of the defns are a bit thin, 11A in particular even with a QM is a bit of a stretch I think : )

Really? Did you spot the name of the compiler?

I feel as if I might be missing a "beginning" as well given there is a hidden "end" : )

Quite clever but I agree with Ixion that some of the definitions are stretching it (particularly 15 down). Are the missing letters really more recent versions of the corresponding surplus ones?

Yes Loge I believe so, but not necessarily the Roman alphabet.

Thanks, BB, I realised we're looking at a different set of letters, but it seems odd to me that the names for the letters should significantly predate the symbolic characters. If anything I'd expect it to be the other way round! Still, I'm not an expert on the subject by any means.

All done, but I can't for the life of me parse 16 or 23 across. I've got a plausible mushed fruit and mathematical power...

Hang on a mo. I think I've worked out 23. Just 16 leaving me scratching my head
