Thanks, Brendan. That was interesting, I'd never seen the three-letter name before. I've always known the five-letter version... primarily though the salad dressing link, possible link!

I thought this was excellent and some of the clues rather clever but, crumbs, the thematic set are an eclectic lot! A few needed googling but I ended up with just one that I'm not very convinced about. I'll wait and see if anyone raises it over the next couple of days.

I have thoroughly enjoyed this one but have one letter left to fill in. Any hints appreciated for "Figure in present or past time" 8 letters, two words, ends AGE.

Always the way, as soon as I posted I solved it. Never heard of the thematic character though, some googling required.

Granama1, if you give the first words of the two thematic clues to that name you’re unconvinced of, I’ll tell you if I agree.

Hi Quisling, the pair are Spanish and High. I have the 'product' but I'm not convinced I have the origin correct (a 1996 film).

The only contextual reference I could find to a character of this name was indeed the film you mention, and the novel that it was based on. That's good enough for me.

I took it from the novel (or stage musical), but it’s the same reference. I’ve no doubt it’s correct

Cheers Quisling and Loge. Like I say, it's an eclectic bunch!

It certainly is. A fine puzzle, and a good deal more interesting than this week’s Listener, imho, as is increasingly the case these days
