There are a few parsings I can’t quite see and would love a hint for (that is, for the answer before replacement when applicable).

I don’t get 1a, though I think I see what the word is.

7d I’m almost there but just can’t quite click the kings!

34d I see the first word as definition but not the rest.

35a “claw”?

Thx

Hi Mooncow,

7d - First of P(layers) + 4 letters for "shows" - definition is "two aces and two kings" but could be also be '2 fours and 2 fives' or '2 sixes and 2 threes' etc.

34d - A Play by Robert Bolt.

1a Pre-treatment the word is a anglicized version of a music note.

35a - I just took "claw" to be a synonym of the last 4 letters in the answer.

PS. The parsing of 7d is pre-thematic treatment.

PPS. 1a - Is also a "look or glance" so would be "revealing image passing by" in addition to "note".

Thanks brendan, all made clear. Sometimes there’s just a key word you have to find in Chambers to see how the clue links up...
