Morning all,
I’d say a little trickier than last week. I fell for the exact same trap in 18d, thanks to Mathi below for setting us straight. Not so keen on ‘bit’ as an indicator. I think I’ve seen ‘soles’ recently and concluded the ‘s’ plural is fine when talking about more then one species. All good fun.
Happy New Year!

Hi Jono,

18d - Last week we had "drop of Drambuie" and this week "bit from comedian" - I suppose there are a limited number of ways a setter can indicate a sing letter - there's only so many times one can say "initially", "for starters" or "to begin with":-)

Hello all and hope we all managed the strangest Christmas ever. Broadband must have been creaking. COD for me is 2d. Most went in easily with a fair bit of help from 'missing letters' assistance. Agree with many comments about spelling (7d). Liked 19a. Once I got the scent (!) of the trail a few were straightforward. FOI 14a. LOI 17a which I cannot quite explain...but it fits. I wait to be informed.

Hi Yevrah,

17a - Is an item of female underwear minus its first letter/"wasting time" which leaves a word meaning "go round and round" (in the 'water' sense).

Enjoyable, though I'm puzzled on 25a. Is the Duke of York a more recent one than the Grand one? I suspect that it refers to a quote that I've missed.

Hi Chris,

I think this refers to an interview that the "Duke of York"/Prince Andrew gave to Emily Maitlis in which he said that an accuser's account of dancing with him at a nightclub could not be true because she said he was "sweaty" but he maintained he could not sweat at the time due to a medical condition.

Thanks Brendan. That's a bit obscure for an Everyman, isn't it? I've certainly never heard it, though I take no interest at all in the Royals.
