Q, I share your frustration with 8d. Regarding 13d, second is ‘S’ and there’s a group on top of S.

Thanks Jono. I read "A group of nits" as A LICE BAND, and couldn't see the reason for a second group. Whether you can equate it to simply LICE is debatable but it's obviously what was meant.
