Well, this one started off easy but got steadily harder as I worked my way around the grid.

FOI was 1d quickly followed by 2d.

The ones I found tricky were not so much because of the answers but more to do with the parsing. 8d and 26a, for example, both took a while to unpack - as did the definition to 15a and 14d which, although an obvious anagram, I just couldn't see the answer as "visionary" - but it is!

If you do get stuck there are a couple of long anagrams in the downs and a couple in the acrosses.

COD - I'm going to pick the obvious homophone at 19d.

Remember, if you do get stuck you only have to ask your question on here, there's always people more than willing to help.

Thanks to Everyman for a fun crossword.

Stay safe:-)

Yes, a nice puzzle. 19d was my LOI, and it took a while to parse, since my knowledge of French is nearly nil. Parsing 8d, 13d, and 26a correctly also took some time.

Hi all, I’d also say this is on the harder side for Everyman but with lots to like.
I struggled to parse 13d at first but now I see it it’s rather good. And the device in 21d is rather interesting. 8d was also a head scratcher when is came to ordering the parts. I also wondered about the definition in 14d but Chambers supports it in a certain sense, interesting political comment perhaps? We have the usual rhyming pair and the primarily clue but nothing else I can spot.
Bed time.

Hi Dscutler,

Good to hear from you again:-)

23a - the B is correct but your A isn't.

Afternoon all. I felt everything slotted into this more easily than some of the recent ones. Maybe the clueing is tighter so the answers are more obvious.
I am not happy with 4a, although it has come up a few times in the last few months. I always feel the proper word should be six letters long and end in -ed.
Loved 19d.
It is a good afternoon to be watching the Big Bash cricket.

Good day. Very confused by the posts - bed time, afternoon, morning all....! They all slotted in eventually, lots of anagrams. FOI 1A, LOI 24A. COD - having seen Brendan's choice of 19D then yes, very good but I'll opt for 26A. Agree the parsing is tricky for some, still cannot see 8D. While I write i saw recently a very witty list of variations on 'A man walks into a bar' jokes. I came up with... 'A predictive text talks into a bra'. Hope you like it. Stay safe.

Hi Yevrah,

8d is tricky to parse - it's an anagram of "son (in) law" + A (from the clue) + a 3 letter "wine cocktail" made from crème de cassis topped up with white wine - yummy:-)
