Does anyone else remember another crossword with the same theme?

Hi Mattrom,

Yes, a few months ago - I remember I'd never heard of it but, you know, once bitten......:-)

I do hope Loge is wrong about a playfair coming along - I always struggle with those - but I do hope that we have a few tougher puzzles. Lets hope this weeks INQUISITOR is a good one.

Candledave. Agreed. This month’s Magpie is certainly harder. I understand the setters this time are a “who’s who” of the editorial staff, none of whom are particularly kindly! So much for Christmas spirit and good will, eh? 😉

Agreement Simon, but hugely enjoyable though. Just cracked Mr Magoo’s this morning which is very satisfying.

To gitto’s point below, to anyone who prefers a tough Listener, I highly recommend Magpie which gives 6 puzzles a month for £40 a year and I would say that the average Magpie is akin to a pretty tough Listener.

Candledave, can you submit the solutions to magpie by e-mail or do you have to post a printed copy. I only ask as I do not own a printer!! And can anyone give me a nudge on this weeks inquisitor? I have a full grid with all answers fully parsed (I think), but not a scooby-doo as to what the blocks of removed letters mean - I do know what those from the extra 4 clues signify.

Gitto - yes, you can submit by email, that’s what I do and assume most do.

Btw, conscious of your printer comment, the £40 I quoted is for online access only. If you want hard copies, it’s £60 to cover the costs of printing and posting (and to try to dissuade I guess).

Thanks, I'll start my subscription in January. I used to subscribe years ago, but I thought some of the "E" puzzles were unsolvable - but no harm in giving it another bash now that I have more time to spend on them. I like to spend more time on the puzzle than waiting for a PDM at the end - like with this weeks "I"

Candledave - can you actually complete the grids online? We’ve always printed off two copies and work in parallel (with two BRBs and two iPads because we are both competitive), then scanned the completed answer grid to email. Semi-techno literate, but still prefer pencil and paper for solving.

Yes, I do the same as you Simon, sorry if I confused. I don’t think you can complete online, hence my comment about potentially needing hard copies sent to you if you haven’t got a printer.

Guess you could recreate your own grids!
