1972? 1972!
Mine only last about five years. I congratulate - and respect - you for the loving care you must take with your books. But if you're thinking of updating, there's never been a better time of year to be dropping a few hints.

My Chambers is totally falling apart. It is 13th edition, (2014) and is my fourth. I catch relatives looking at the broken spine and torn covers and thinking they’ve spotted a Christmas gift opportunity, but I want a new version! And there doesn’t seem to be one on the horizon.

That's the one I have, which is in fairly good condition. I still have the older ones - can't bring myself to chuck them out.

It's the only ref book I use and I'm tempted to add Bradshaw's. (Though that always makes me think of Sherlock Holmes.)

Thanks Malone, and apologies for late reply, my mobile phone was not allowing me to post! Sadly, my girlfriend told me the answer, and I forgot. Oh dear. Too much wine on a sunday afternoon!

Thanks, Slugabed. I was relieved to hear you got the answer, the source doesn't matter!

The preamble states "two further thematic identities", but the 14 cells show a location and one identity made up of two entries?

That's a good point Mattrom, I hadn't noticed that but you're spot on, it is only one identity (albeit two names) and one location.

Thanks, Brendan, I wondered if I was missing something. I enjoyed the puzzle.
