I couldn't believe the cost of staying there - FROM!! $600 per night and it attracts 120,000 visitors per annum - staggering!

Could 26 be a merged wordplay where ‘fight’ also refers to the ‘front’ three letters of nightspot thus getting the -ING? It’s tenuous though.

Hi JollyRoger,

That's an interesting idea but I'd say it's unlikely because "in front of" invariably means 'goes before' or the refers to the first letter of the following word.

Morning all, enjoyed this today. I was a b not an r, and hadn't seen the r possibility which I think is cleverer. Or at least more nuanced. Thanks for the China parsing Brendan - I couldn't see that at all.

Just finished after starting at coffee time, so quite good for me. I went for the 'b' version of the answer to 26a and never thought of the 'r' version until I visited the forum. I think I am missing something in the parsing of 11d. Where does the first letter of the second part of the answer come from?

I always struggle with Spooner. Today is no different - going to be loi. I'd apprdciate a clue.
I went for B @26 now agree with Lucy. Recall explaining my children how 2 words with identical spelling are sounded differently depending on context.

Sat, 11d - expressing distress is the definition and loudly is the homophone indicator for the first part of the clue

Hi Fop. Struggling to find a way of hinting at the answer to 9a without giving away the answer! The homophone for the first word (before it's 'spoonered') is only 4 letters, and means to be bold. The homophone for the second word is 6 letters and means divulge. Try thinking of a 6 letter homophone for that which also means the sound a pig might make. Hopefully after that, the answer will be 'divulged' to you!
