Ah! It could be referring to more than one family.

And doesn't the world feel a slightly better place today? Agree with ChrisE - not a great one. On first run through could not fathom any but with a few crossers in there and the long anagrams it all slotted in. There are some poor clues which previous posters have all picked up. I like Brendans theory. Despite different views my COD is 12A. Should we not have a FOD (Flop of the Day). Mine would be 1D or 2D. Not going far today so will check the forum later. COYS.

Have finished before midday 2 weeks on trot. Hoping this means I’m getting better at this rather than the puzzles getting easier! Can now manage up to and including Wednesday’s cryptic crossword in the Guardian...
LOI 12a - thanks to the tips here. Appreciated 14a because I was saying the answer in my head (in the singular) and thinking I’d made a mistake with 6d until I resorted to thesaurus for pretentiousness and it suddenly clicked. Feel calmer today after yesterday’s result too 😊

Although it worked I thought 15d was one of the most tedious clues I've ever seen!
Still can't parse 2d properly even though I'm sure I have the right answer.
Brendan's theory was far more entertaining than the crossword itself.
Thank you Brendan.

Agree about 15d, I hope it’s not setting precedent for a trend of such clues!

Hi Joni or Brendan
Could you explain the reference to 3 x CC, please?

Hi gasmanjack,
Three of the longer two word clues have these two letters in common, that’s all. There’s often some form of connection between clues in the Everyman to look out for ;)

Sometimes there are rhyming pairs.
Last week there was carbon dating and speed skating.
