I forgot to say I have now finished, thanks to the Forum. Some of the clues (and answers) were really difficult. Filling in the grid was fairly easy.

Q? The P answer - where does the 4th letter come from in the clue? I can see 'rejected class almost' but not why, say, 'almost perfect' creates the 4th letter.

I interpreted it as "perfect" being a verb, also synonymous with sharpen, 4 letters long then the last removed to give the second half of the tropical native.
