Not a 5-sided place in DC then.

No, the other place - if you have the name of the film then its wiki synopsis (last para) deals very briefly with his exit after the ceremon.

I think you have it- it’s the European one.

If anyone's interested, Ifor has provided some additional notes to aid solving on BigDave's website:-

......In addition to Ifor's extra hints, it also says "this was about as difficult as an EV can get" - I'll second that!

I've still got a handful of clues left but I'm pretty sure I know who the "confused person" - apart from me, that is.

I need to take a break and restore my equilibrium (geddit 🤪) before I try and solve the last few holdouts - It's years since I saw the film so I might re-watch it and hopefully that will help me with the endgame.

I knew I shouldn't have come back to EVs after a break. At the moment I need three answers (14 across - the obvious 6 letter word?, 10 down - a three letter word? and 11 down - a two letter word?) Where I am really struggling is deciding where the gaps belong in some of the original entries. I think 18, 21 and 25 across should all be letter, gap, letter, gap, letter and 39 across letter, gap, letter, gap, letter, gap, letter. Any pointers in the right direction would be much appreciated. Time to look at it again.

alwayspuzzled -
14a I think is very obscure - the reversed 3 letter word for 'switch'/cane is easy enough but the common 3 letter word reversed on the outside has a meaning I wasn't aware of (re roughness).
10d is the 3 letter measure with L inside.
11d yes - a 2 letter exclamation reversed.

Yes, you're right about the18a gaps - just continue the line vertically.

Thanks for that drxx. It is much appreciated. I now have the grid with the 19 blanks, have found one of the names - I share the reservations about it also being the name of the confused character - but need to find the second and then read yet again the plot synopsis and about the life of the confused character to establish what goes in the blank spaces.

It's very close by - she has a separate wiki entry which helps, alwayspuzzled.
