I'm so surprised to find out that what I grew up here in Canada thinking was the standard blend of the quintessential cuppa is unfamiliar to Forum participants. I'm talking about 12 across. Another thing learned from the Forum! And I hear that drink is a superfood. Black not green; great news!

I just can't see what 23 across is, even though there are very few possibilities for the L_V_ pattern.

Help please!

Hi Demeter,

23a - It's a 4 letter word for "in front of audience" - think of a band playing L?V? - and it's a 4 letter word for "sin" reversed/"recant"

Does 'recant' really mean 'reverse' - and does 'live', on its own, mean 'in front of an audience'? I'm sure the answer is correct, but I find the definitions a bit on the loose side!

Sorry, Brendan and Demeter - I didn't mean to put in the actual answer!

Hi Malone,

I see your point but Chambers gives "recant" as "retract" which in turn is "to draw back" so I'd say that's ok and when you play in "front of an audience" as opposed to over the radio or on a record etc you would be playing L....

PS Don't worry about the inadvertent slip of the answer, as you well know, we've all done it:-)

Thanks, Brendan. I can just about make 'recant' valid, but the other one
really doesn't work for me in that there's no indication in the clue that you're playing, singing or doing anything. The 'in front of an audience' on its own isn't enough for me!

Thanks Malone.

I think LIVE = in front of audience is fine, but recant as a reversal indicator is a bit tenuous.

Thanks, Demeter. It's interesting how our opinions can vary! I like your 'tenuous'. I 've used 'loose' and I've seen mention, on the Everyman blogs, of 'flabby' definitions.
