So third should really be capitalised!

Just for fun, I have gone to TEA and found all possible entries for 29a (which have to be words in the BRB, of course). It comes up with 45 alternatives, including bison, Diana, Dixon, dogma, drama, droop, grump, tigon, Timon, token and try-on. Some of these sound quite appropriate

All done but not really feeling it this week.

Not much in there by way of construction and you could place quite a few answers without parsing.

A neat centrepiece though but hardly a unique idea.

Probably just grumpy at the thought of the outcome

The instructions given by the misprints are very clear. The event in question is to take place on the 3rd of the month, so if there is a clear result, then 26a is unambiguous. If there is no clear result I suppose that in order to submit the entry on time you have to guess at the eventual answer. So it seems that the submission will have to wait for a while.

To those debating the treatment of 26a, I read 'the third outcome' to mean neither prevailed, thus to enter both possibilities, if you want to post before the result.

I think it means outcome on the third, and one's best guess if necessary is because there is a very decent chance we won't know the final outcome when we have to post, at which point I presume either answer would be acceptable (in terms of the crossword, if not the future of the planet).

Fun, instructive and well managed, with a clear outcome. So unlike the real thing!

So, given the promise of court action, no clear answer to 26a after all 😜
